WWF_EXCLUSIVE: THE ROAD TO EXTREME RULES

LOCATION: The Rock’s Private Gym, Miami, FL INTERVIEWER: Quinito Henson (“The Dean” of Philippine Combat Sports)

The “Brahma Bull” is currently finishing a set of heavy squats as Quinito Henson waits with his notepad. The intensity in the room is high—The Rock is preparing for a BMF Rules fight against the most feared street fighter on the planet, Kimbo Slice.

QUINITO HENSON: “Rock, first of all, Kumusta! The fans in the Philippines and all over the world are electrified. You’ve just signed on to face Kimbo Slice in a BMF (Baddest Motherf***er) match. This isn’t your typical wrestling match—this is bare-knuckle territory. Question 1: Why take this risk now, when you are so close to the Undisputed World Title?“

THE ROCK: (Wiping sweat with a towel, eyes focused) “Quinito, Salamat. To answer your question—The Rock doesn’t play it safe. Kimbo Slice thinks because he’s got a beard and a YouTube highlight reel that he owns the ‘streets.’ But the Rock is the People, and the People live on those streets. If I want to be the Undisputed King, I have to walk through the most dangerous alley in the WWF. Risk? The only risk is Kimbo thinking he’s getting out of that ring in one piece.”

QUINITO HENSON: “Kimbo just lost his #1 P4P spot to Hulk Hogan, and he’s coming into this fight with a chip on his shoulder the size of a mountain. Question 2: Do you think a desperate, angry Kimbo Slice is more dangerous than the one who was winning easily?“

THE ROCK: “Desperation is just another word for ‘clumsy.’ Kimbo is emotional. He’s mad at the rankings, he’s mad at Hogan, he’s mad at the world. The Rock? The Rock is cold. I’m surgical. When you fight with anger, you leave openings. And Quinito, you know as well as anyone—you give The Rock an opening, and I will lay the SmackDown on your candy-ass before you can blink.”

QUINITO HENSON: “We saw Kimbo dismantle Eagle in seconds last month because of the massive power gap. You are much bigger and faster than Eagle, but Kimbo’s hands are like bricks. Question 3: What is the specific strategy to avoid that one-punch ‘Kill Switch’ he possesses?“

THE ROCK: “You hit him first, you hit him hard, and you keep moving. Kimbo is a stationary target. He wants to plant his feet and swing for the fences. The Rock is an athlete. I’ve got the footwork, I’ve got the range, and I’ve got a spinebuster that will put his 230-pound frame through the canvas. He’s looking for a knockout; I’m looking to break his spirit.”

QUINITO HENSON: “This is under BMF Rules. No 10-ounce gloves, no referee stoppages unless someone is unconscious. Question 4: Have you changed your training camp? Are you working more on your ‘dirty’ boxing and clinch work to prepare for his street-fighting style?“

THE ROCK: “I’ve been in the trenches. I’ve brought in the best catch-wrestlers and the grittiest brawlers. We aren’t training for a ‘match,’ Quinito. We are training for a mugging. Kimbo wants to make it ugly? The Rock can get as ugly as it gets. I’m sharpening the elbows, I’m hardening the knuckles. It’s going to be a long night for the ‘Street King.'”

QUINITO HENSON: “There is a lot of talk about the ‘Mafia’ protecting certain fighters, but Kimbo seems to be an outsider. Question 5: Do you feel the WWF brass wants you to win this to keep the title in the hands of a mainstream star, or do they want the ‘monster’ Kimbo to remain invincible?“

THE ROCK: “The Rock doesn’t give a damn what the ‘brass’ wants. I don’t work for them; I work for the fans. If the suit-and-tie guys in the back want a corporate champion, they’re looking at the wrong man. I’m going in there to win because it’s my destiny. Whether the ‘Mafia’ likes it or not, the People’s Champion is taking that #1 spot back.”

QUINITO HENSON: “Kurt Angle is lurking. He wants the winner in January for a title shot. Question 6: If you get past Kimbo, are you ready to transition from a street brawler like him to an Olympic technical master like Angle just three months later?“

THE ROCK: “One hurdle at a time, Quinito. Angle is a great athlete, but he’s got no ‘dog’ in him like Kimbo does. If I can survive the street, the Olympic mat will feel like a vacation. But first, Kimbo Slice gets the beating of a lifetime.”

QUINITO HENSON: “Final question, Rock. The fans in Manila are staying up until 4:00 AM to watch this. Question 7: What is your final message to Kimbo Slice before you step into that Extreme Rules environment?“

THE ROCK: (Leaning into the camera, brow furrowed) “Kimbo… you spent your whole life fighting for bread in backyards. Now you’re in the Great One’s backyard. You talk about being ‘the baddest,’ but at Extreme Rules, you’re going to realize there’s a difference between a street fighter and a God. Pack your bags, bring your beard, and bring every bit of ‘thug’ you’ve got—because it won’t be enough. If you smell… what the Rock… is cookin’!”
