Bruno Sammartino vs The British Bulldog

[[ RINGSIDE BROADCAST TRANSCRIPT ]]

JIM ROSS: “He passed out! The Bulldog is completely unconscious! The Living Legend has squeezed the literal air out of Leeds’ favorite son! Sixty-six years old, and Bruno Sammartino is going to the Final 8!”

JOE ROGAN: “JR, that was a masterclass in psychological combat. The Bulldog had this match won! He was physically dominating the second half! But you cannot turn your back and showboat against a man with that much ring intelligence. Bruno waited for the exact micro-second Davey Boy’s defensive aura dropped, unlocked his chakra, and completely compressed his thoracic cavity. That is an absolute Knockout of the Year candidate, but man… what does this mean for the main event?!”

MICHAEL COLE: “That is the critical question, Joe! The British Bulldog has to team up with Kurt Angle and Kane later tonight under strict UFC shoot-fighting rules against the Gracies. He was already a second late on his Nen defense hereβ€”how much internal damage did Bruno just inflict on him?!”

Historian’s Note

This was really one of the most brutal Knockouts in recent memory. Davey just went out cold, like a vegetable flopped when he was dropped after that Bear Hug. On this game, a split second error was all it took.
